A major renovation project is underway in R. Kalantos Street, Kaunas, with the aim of adapting a manufacturing and industrial building for administrative activities. The client of this project is Kaunas City Social Services Centre. The renovation works are being carried out to ensure an efficient and functional layout of the premises, adapted to the needs of social services.
Conversion of a three-storey building with a basement
The building has three storeys with a basement, with a total area of 1259.62 sqm and a volume of 5764 cubic metres.The building has a pitched roof, covered with a classic tin roofing. The windows are plastic, the doors are wooden and metal. The façade is insulated and covered with decorative plaster. The height of the premises is approximately 3,00 m. The structure of the building is designed for efficient operation, ensuring the functionality of both the administrative and the ancillary premises.
On the ground floor there are detention rooms (sobering room) and temporary accommodation for men. On the second floor, temporary accommodation for women. On the third floor, the administration part is planned, with offices, workstations and common areas for staff. The basement contains technical and ancillary rooms for storage and utility purposes.
Modernisation and new engineering solutions
The building is surrounded by new pavement parking spaces, electric car charging stations, pavements and ramps to the building, which are accessible to people with disabilities. New fencing, landscaping and lawns. Modernised engineering systems: electrical, fire, security, ventilation, water supply, sewage and heating. New engineering communications ensure reliable and safe operation of the building.
Renovation work
The renovation included the removal of old floors, slabs, partitions, ceilings, roofing and structures, staircases, windows and doors. Only the foundations and the capital walls remain. New foundations have been laid for the lift shaft and the new staircase. The slabs are made of Teriva prefabricated blocks. The floor is covered with tiles or PVC, the walls are plastered, plastered and painted. Partly plasterboard ceiling, partly Armstrong type. Plastic windows, metal doors (except in the administration rooms where the doors are wooden).
Project implementation
After the reconstruction, the building will be fully adapted to the activities of the social services centre. The administrative premises will provide comfort and functionality for the staff and the accommodation will provide a safe and comfortable environment for assistance. The renovation work is being carried out in phases, taking into account the physical condition of the building and the infrastructure solutions envisaged. The project is implemented by Kaunas City Social Services Centre in cooperation with construction and design specialists. The modernisation also takes into account the specifics of the activities of the social services centre and the needs of the service users.
